Mrs Laing – Headteacher (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
I am Mrs Laing and I have the wonderful and privileged position of Headteacher at our fantastic school. I have been working in the education sector as a Headteacher, a school improvement consultant, a maths consultant and class teacher for over 20 years. I absolutely love my job and there is nothing more magical than working with children to help them to grow and learn. Outside of school, I love spending time with my two children reading as many books as I can and attempting the occasional mud run.
Mrs Philcox – Interim Deputy Headteacher and Inclusion Manager (Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday)
I am Mrs Philcox and I am the Inclusion Manager. My job is to look after the children with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities. This includes children who are gifted and talented as well as children who need a bit of extra support to ensure that they make progress in school. Part of my job is to set up the interventions that take place in our school – these groups are designed to enable children to make rapid progress in a small group or 1:1 situation. I teach some of these groups. I have always wanted to be a teacher and I love my job!
Mrs Hathaway – Interim Deputy Headteacher and Teacher in Reception (Wednesday/Thursday/Friday)
My name is Mrs Hathaway and I have worked at The John Moore Primary School for over 10 years. Currently I am a part time teacher, working on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I teach Year R with Mrs Hodgson. I am also responsible for English and absolutely love to see the development of children’s writing as they progress through the school. Outside of school, my two young children keep me very busy. I have always had a love of animals especially dogs and horses, although I now tend to watch equestrian competitions rather than entering them!
Mrs Hodgson – Teacher in Reception
My name is Mrs Hodgson. I am a part-time teacher and I teach in Year R with Mrs Hathaway. I work on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I am responsible for leading Phonics throughout the school. I have worked at this school for over 12 years. When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my family. My hobbies include running, reading and going for country walks.
Mrs Alderman-Bowers – PPA Teacher and Outdoor Learning lead (Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday)
I am Mrs Alderman-Bowers and I teach Outdoor Learning across the school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I love teaching at the school and really enjoy the fact that no two days are the same and there is always something new to be discovered. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family and baking cakes for others!
Mrs Thomas – Teacher in Reception
My name is Mrs Thomas and I teach the Reception/Year 1 class. I have a love of teaching in the Early Years. I love seeing the rapid progress in reading and writing that children make in their first few years of school. I really enjoy teaching at The John Moore Primary School. I am also currently responsible for DT and Art and Design across the school. Outside of school, I love borrowing a dog for a walk or cooking up something sweet in my kitchen.
Mrs Johnson – Teacher in Year 1 (Wednesday/Thursday/ Friday)
My name is Mrs Johnson and I teach Year 1 on Wednesday afternoons, Thursdays and Fridays. I love being around children and watching them learn, as I learn with them! Every day is different and exciting, which is why I enjoy my job so much. When I’m not at school I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my family – especially cooking for them.
Mrs Williams – Teacher in Year 3 (Wednesday/Thursday/Friday)
Hi, I’m Mrs Williams and I thoroughly enjoy being a teacher, supporting children with learning opportunities so they can be the best they can be. I am the Year 3 class teacher, having previously taught in Worcestershire for 21 years. I really enjoy working at The John Moore Primary School. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, reading, painting and going to the cinema when I can!
Miss Sturgess – Teacher in Year 4 (Wednesday/Thursday/Friday)
My name is Miss Sturgess. I am a part-time teacher, teaching in Year 4. I have worked at The John Moore Primary School for over 10 years. I am responsible in school for Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship (PSHCE) and Healthy Schools. When I am not working, my two children keep me very busy! I enjoy spending time with my family in the outdoors, going for walks or visiting beaches. When I get spare time, I enjoy listening to a variety of music, running and swimming.
Mr Cambridge – Teacher in Year 2
My name is Mr Cambridge and I teach Year 2. I really enjoy my job as a teacher, being able to see children in my class grow with their learning over the school year. I am very excited to be working at The John Moore Primary. When I am not in school, I enjoy reading new books that I like to share with my class and travelling to different countries around the world.
Miss Stephens – Teacher in Year 5
I am Miss Stephens and I teach Year 5. I have taught for over ten years and am very excited to be at The John Moore Primary School. In school, I am also responsible for PE. Outside of school, I spend lots of time with my friends and family. I also run and like being active. I have completed 4 half marathons, including one in Tewkesbury.
Miss Man – Teacher in Year 6
I am Miss Man and I teach one of the Year 6 classes. I joined The John Moore Primary School in September 2014. I’ve lived in Hong Kong for a few years and while over there, I traveled to New Zealand and did a tandem skydive over Lake Taupo. Outside of school, I enjoy trips to the cinema and I like to sample different cuisines.
Miss Watkins- Teacher in Year 6
Miss Madge – Teacher in Year 1 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
My role in the school is currently as Y1 teacher. Before settling at John Moore, I worked as a class teacher, first in Yorkshire, in Knaresborough and Leeds, and then in Italy, in Padua and Milan. When I am not in school, I enjoy going out and about with my family and friends and I especially enjoy everything and anything to do with Italy.
Mrs Bates – Teacher in Year 3 (Monday, Tuesday)
My name is Mrs Bates and I joined The John Moore Primary School in September 2014. My favourite subject is music and I love singing and playing the piano. I also like going running in my spare time. My family and I moved to Cheltenham a few years ago from London where I was a teacher for 7 years, so we like to spend the weekends exploring our new local area.
Mrs Parker-Standley – Teacher in Year 4 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
Hi, I’m Mrs Parker-Standley and I teach in Year 4. Previously, I came from a local rural school where I taught across the year groups for 13 years. I love helping children to develop both academically and socially, and especially enjoy those ‘lightbulb’ moments when children truly understand something. I am passionate about nature and the many benefits of being outdoors, and am a trained Forest School Leader. I also love art, and paint and make wobbly pots in my spare time, along with going for muddy dog walks in the woods.
