The John Moore Primary School
Off By Heart Poetry Competition 2017
We are proud to announce our first John Moore Primary School Off By Heart Poetry Competition. For this competition we ask that all children learn one poem from the list below ‘Off By Heart’. The children will then recite their poems in class (w/c 5th June) and the two winning entries from each class will go through to the Grand Final on Wednesday 21st June 2017.
All poems can be be accessed on this page. The best way of learning a poem is not to try and do it all at once. Little and often, line by line, is often the best approach. Staff and parents are also encouraged to have a go as this will also give the children encouragement! this poetry challenge replaces English homework for the next few weeks so that the children have time to dedicate to this competition.
Key Stage 1 – There are 5 poems to choose from. They can be found by clicking on the links below.
The Key Stage 2 poems can also be found by clicking on the links below. There are 5 poems to choose from. Some are funny. Some are sad. Some are nonsense. Some might make you think. They are all fantastic poems however and we hope you find one that you would like to learn.
I hope everyone enjoys reading these poems and learning one ‘off by heart’.
Kind regards
Mrs Hathaway
